Archie Boston
The history of graphic design has so far been heavily skewed toward white, Caucasian, and European designers. They tend to fill the pages, webpages, and galleries lauding design. As humanity evolves, we hopefully realize the value in making space for more diverse voices in the world of Design. One such voice that is finally receiving much-deserved recognition is that of Archie Boston and his body of work. Both an educator and Graphic Provocateur in his designs, Boston is unapologetically Black, and his legacy has been one of both integrity and irreverence. This paper examines the life of Archie Boston, what makes his visual strategies unique, and what lessons we can learn from his ongoing legacy.
