Despite extensive research on international students' obstacles at institutions in Canada, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, as these countries are home to the largest number of international students, there is a scarcity of knowledge about the problems that international students encounter in the MENA region. Investigate this topic at the American University in Cairo (AUC) as a regional university with a large number of international students and try to eliminate the lack of data on this topic. The study looks into what kinds of challenges international students encounter, how these challenges affect their academic performance, mental health, and community engagement, and how the institution can assist them to overcome these difficulties. The information on these topics was gathered through an online survey of 37 international students from nine different countries, all of whom are currently enrolled at AUC in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Many studies conducted at colleges in the aforementioned nations found that language difficulties cause overseas students numerous academic and engagement challenges. Other social, health, and financial issues that international students may confront while studying abroad are also possible. The findings revealed that the majority of international students at AUC had difficulties in at least one of the following areas: academics, social life, health, language barriers, administrative and registration processes, and culture adjustment. The majority of students were affected by these difficulties in terms of mental health, followed by academic performance and community engagement. Participants highlighted support available through university channels such as well-being and counseling; nonetheless, some participants felt that this assistance was insufficient, and that greater efficiency was required. This study could benefit colleges in the MEAN region in determining what challenges international students face, particularly, AUC in better understanding how to assist oversea students and make the overseas experience more comfortable.
