This study investigated the relationship between perfectionism, social anxiety, and fear of failure in college students. Previous literature revealed positive correlations between these three variables. For example, a significant relationship between perfectionism and social anxiety has been found; specifically a positive correlation between the two. Furthermore, perfectionism has been found to have a positive correlation between fear of failure. Previous literature has also revealed a positive correlation between fear of failure and social anxiety. Based on this previous literature, the following hypotheses were proposed. There is a positive correlation between perfectionism and social anxiety; there is a positive correlation between perfectionism and fear of failure; and there is a positive correlation between social anxiety and fear of failure. To test these hypotheses, the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS), the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A), and the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory – Revised (PFAI) were administered. Eighty-nine (N = 89) undergraduate students participated in this study. The participants were students of all classifications from fine arts, science, and psychology classes. Upon IRB approval and permission from the professor, instrument packets and consent forms were administered in classrooms. Participation was voluntary and confidential. The collected data was analyzed by a correlational analysis using SPSS software. It was found that perfectionism and social anxiety were positively correlated at a significant level (r = .394, p < .001one-tailed), perfectionism and fear of failure were positively correlated at a significant level (r = .549, p < .001one-tailed.), and fear of failure and social anxiety were positively correlated at a significant level (r = .576, p < .001one-tailed). One limitation to the study was a lack of gender diversity.
