While primarily cited for its revolutionary approach to architectural design and education, the Bauhaus movement has also significantly contributed to contemporary graphic design practices in the United States. This study examines how core Bauhaus design principles continue to shape modern visual communication in two fundamental areas: typography and geometric systems. Through an in-depth literature review, this research investigates how the Bauhaus design principles of functional minimalism and the integration of art and technology helped to establish the foundations of modern American graphic design. The study particularly focuses on two key areas of influence:

1.      Typographic approaches prioritizing clarity and universal readability, reflecting the Bauhaus emphasis on functionality over ornamentation.

2.      Geometric systems that structure modern design and define the digital interfaces used to create them

While the transition to digital design has transformed many aspects of graphic design practice, this study demonstrates how Bauhaus principles helped to shape these practices and how these principles remain relevant in modern graphic design. By examining these historical connections and their contemporary applications, this research investigates both the historical development of American visual communication and the ongoing relevance of Bauhaus principles in today's digital design landscape.
