NCUR 2023 Special Sessions

Thursday, April 13, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. | Session #A

Engineering the Art of Light | Sponsored by Electronic Theatre Control | Schofield Hall, Auditorium

Light impacts every moment of our lives. Controlling artificial light to replicate these moments is what launched ETC into existence. In the mid-70s, four college friends decided they could make a lighting control console better than the one in use at the time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In this moment, ETC’s culture of engineering for the arts was born. Now a global leader in the manufacturing of lighting and rigging technology, their products can be found in theatres, churches, restaurants, hotels, television studios, casinos, theme parks and opera houses. Come and watch as ETC shares the extraordinary engineering and science which creates beauty and elicits emotion for audiences of the performing arts. Live and learn as ETC narrates the science of creating beautiful light.
